A series of parliamentary bills on the lifting of currency restrictions in Iceland are nearing completion and will be put before the Icelandic Parliament (‘Alþingi’) before the summer recess.
This was the announcement made yesterday by Iceland’s Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs, Bjarni Benediktsson. There are plans to extend the current parliament some way into June.
Work on this legislation is at a very advanced stage, according to Benediktsson. “The bills are now getting their final ‘read-through’. I cannot give an exact date for when I shall be presenting the texts to the Cabinet, but all my staff are working towards completion as soon as possible.”
